M. Blake Hillstead, DDS, DHSc
Hi! My name is Blake Hillstead. I was born in Seattle, Washington and am the youngest of five children.
When I was in middle school, my family had the opportunity to relocate to Sandy, Utah where I attended Albion Middle School and eventually Brighton High School. I was fortunate to represent Brighton High School at leadership and academic conferences during my high school years. I also served as the captain of the Brighton soccer team and was honored to win two 5-A State Championships with them. Go Bengals!
I attended BYU in Provo prior to serving a two year LDS mission in India and Nepal. It was while living in India that I began to see that no matter where you are in the world, a smile speaks a thousand words. Upon my return to BYU, I narrowed my focus and began to pursue a future in dentistry.
While at BYU I started dating my future wife, Alison. Ali and I grew up in the same neighborhood in Seattle but as kids had no idea that we would end up husband and wife nearly 15 years later. Ali is a dental hygienist and it’s safe to say, we both like teeth!
I was accepted into the University of Washington School of Dentistry where I served as President of the Student Dental Association and, for the first time, underwent orthodontic treatment for myself. While wearing braces, I saw firsthand what orthodontics was really about. Having straight teeth improved my confidence and self-image and I wanted to make a difference in the smiles and confidence of others. I decided to specialize in orthodontics and never looked back.
I completed my orthodontic residency at A.T. Still University in Mesa, Arizona. During residency I was trained in the latest orthodontic techniques and was mentored by some of the finest orthodontists in the Phoenix valley. I served as Chief Resident of my class and focused my research on oral hygiene during orthodontic treatment.
After nearly 11 years of schooling, I graduated and purchased a practice near Sedona Arizona. Ali and I loved the beautiful red rocks of northern Arizona; however, Utah always called to us. After three years near Sedona, we were thrilled when we had the opportunity to return to the mountains.

Our family has grown over the years. Ali and I now have five beautiful children, Paige, Brynn, Ryan, Charlotte and Sophie. As a family we love to play games, go hiking and play on the beach. We also love to travel and explore all that Utah has to offer.
I am Invisalign Certified and a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. Being a “board certified” orthodontist means I have demonstrated to the American Board of Orthodontics that I have the skills and knowledge required to provide my patients with the highest level of care. This is a voluntary process that takes dozens of hours to complete and one which few orthodontists attain. I am also a member of the American Association of Orthodontists and the American Dental Association.
I am excited for the opportunity to care for our wonderful patients in Taylorsville, Utah. Our amazing staff has over 75 years of orthodontic experience and we are committed to providing you and your family and friends the best orthodontic experience possible. You can feel confident that you are in caring and capable hands. I look forward to meeting you and discussing ways that we can give you the best smile possible.
